# GitHub

#### What it does

With the GitHub integration, Birdie users can:

* create a new GitHub issue from a recording
* add a comment to an existing issue from a recording
* choose the target repository (and the issue, when commenting)
* optionally set assignees, labels and a milestone
* include the Birdie recording link, a thumbnail and context in the issue

This makes it easier to turn customer recordings into actionable issues for engineering and product teams.

#### How it works

A Birdie admin connects GitHub once for the whole workspace.

After that, anyone in the Birdie workspace with access to the feature can use **Send to GitHub** from a recording.

This means individual users do **not** need to connect their own GitHub account to create issues from Birdie.

#### How to connect GitHub

1. Open your Birdie workspace settings.
2. Go to the **Integrations** section.
3. Click **Connect** on the GitHub card.
4. Authorize the Birdie app on GitHub.
5. Choose the repositories you want Birdie to access, then install.

Once connected, Birdie will be able to create issues in the repositories you selected.

{% hint style="info" %}
Only repositories where the Birdie app is installed **and** that have Issues enabled will appear in the picker. You can change which repositories Birdie can access at any time from **GitHub → Settings → Installed GitHub Apps → Birdie → Configure**.
{% endhint %}

#### How to create an issue

1. Open a recording in Birdie.
2. Click **Send to GitHub**. (If you also have Linear or ClickUp connected, use the arrow next to the **Send to** button and pick **Send to GitHub**.)
3. Fill in the details:
   * Repository (required)
   * Issue — leave as **Create a new Issue**, or pick an existing issue to comment on it instead
   * Assignees
   * Labels
   * Milestone
   * Title (required when creating a new issue)
   * Description
4. Click **Create New Issue** (or **Add Comment** when an existing issue is selected).

Birdie will create the issue (or comment) in GitHub and include the recording context.

#### What is included in the GitHub issue

Depending on how you fill in the form, Birdie can include:

* the issue title
* your description
* a clickable thumbnail of the recording that opens it on Birdie
* a link to the recording (Watch on Birdie)
* context data (browser, OS, timezone, location, date)
* the assignees, labels and milestone selected in the form

{% hint style="info" %}
GitHub can't play the recording inline, so Birdie embeds the thumbnail as a clickable image that opens the recording on Birdie.
{% endhint %}

#### Disconnecting GitHub

Click the **✕** on the GitHub card in **Integrations**. This takes you to your GitHub **Installed GitHub Apps** page, where you uninstall the Birdie app.

When you uninstall the app (or revoke its authorization) on GitHub, GitHub notifies Birdie automatically and the connection is removed on Birdie's side.

#### Notes

* A Birdie admin must connect GitHub before other users can use the integration.
* The available repositories, labels, assignees and milestones depend on where the Birdie app is installed and on your GitHub permissions.
* Repositories with Issues disabled (for example, some forks) won't appear in the picker.
