# GDPR opt-in

{% hint style="info" %}

{% endhint %}

To stay compliant with GDPR while keeping a smooth user experience, we recommend displaying a short consent message directly in the recorder interface using the [**`Footnote text`**](https://docs.birdie.so/birdie-docs/request-screen-recordings/installation/customize-appearance#footnote-text-optional) feature.

Why use the Footnote text:

* It ensures users are informed at the moment they start recording
* It keeps the experience frictionless with no extra steps
* It provides a clear and lightweight form of consent

#### Example

```
By recording, you agree to our <a href="https://www.birdie.so/legal#PrivacyPolicy">Privacy Policy</a>
```

#### Tips

* Keep the message short and easy to understand
* Avoid legal jargon or long paragraphs
* Always include a link to your Privacy Policy

This approach strikes the right balance between compliance and conversion, ensuring users feel informed without adding friction to the recording flow.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.birdie.so/birdie-docs/security/gdpr-opt-in.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
