Is your recording missing audio? Try these fixes.

If the Birdie Chrome extension isn’t capturing your microphone audio during recordings, don’t worry! Follow the troubleshooting steps below to quickly resolve the issue.

Symptoms

  • Your Birdie recordings don’t have sound, even though a microphone is selected.

  • You don't see a prompt to allow microphone access when starting a recording.

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Check Chrome Microphone Settings

  2. Verify the following settings:

    • Default behaviour: Ensure the option "Sites can ask to use your microphone" is selected.

  3. Clear the Birdie website(s) under the Allow section by clicking the trash icon next to each site.

  4. Restart Chrome and return to the microphone settings page to confirm your changes.

Step 3: Adjust Audio Source

  1. Open the Birdie extension and click the drop-down arrow next to the mic.

  2. Select your preferred microphone from the available options.

Step 4 A: Check Chrome Microphone Access in macOS Settings

If you're using macOS, ensure that Google Chrome has permission to access your microphone:

  1. Open System Preferences (or System Settings on macOS Ventura and later).

  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Microphone.

  3. In the list of apps, find Google Chrome and make sure the toggle is enabled.

If Chrome does not appear in the list, ensure you’ve attempted to use your microphone in Chrome recently, as macOS typically adds apps to the list only after they request access.

Step 4 B: Check Chrome Microphone Access in Windows Settings

If you're using Windows, confirm that Google Chrome has permission to access your microphone:

  1. Open the Start Menu and select Settings.

  2. Navigate to Privacy > Microphone.

  3. Ensure the toggle for Microphone access is enabled.

  4. Scroll down to Allow desktop apps to access your microphone and confirm that the toggle is enabled.

  5. In the list of apps, ensure that Google Chrome is listed and enabled.

If Chrome does not appear in the list, try using your microphone in Chrome, as Windows often updates permissions only when an app requests access.

Step 5: Restart Your Device

This old trick always helps!

Additional Tips

  • Ensure your microphone is not muted: Check your device’s physical microphone settings or controls.

  • Try a different microphone: If you have multiple options, switch to another microphone to rule out hardware issues.

  • Reload Birdie extension: If problems persist, reloads the Birdie Chrome extension to refresh its settings and permissions.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve microphone issues and ensure your recordings include audio. If problems persist, contact our support team for further assistance
